CILIP Carnegie 2013 Shortlist

The CILIP Carnegie 2013 Shortlist  has been announced today and it's a whopper. Excellent books with some variety too.  I highly recommend at least 6 of them!

The CILIP Carnegie 2013 Shortlist:
1. Maggot Moon - Sally Gardner
2. The Weight of Water - Sarah Crossan
3. In Darkness - Nick Lake
4. Wonder - RJ Palacio
5. Code Name Verity - Elizabeth Wein
6. A Boy and a Bear in a Boat - Dave Shelton
7. A Greyhound of a Girl - Roddy Doyle
8. Midwinterblood - Marcus Sedgwick.

Numbers 1-5 on the list were picked for my personal shortlist, which includes links to reviews of seven titles on the shortlist.

Next read for me will be Midwinterblood. It's the only one I haven't read and reviewed yet and I've heard marvellous things about it.

Very excited to get going with our shadowing group now.

If anyone would like to join us, please let us know.
Also, Anna James is hosting a shadowing group on Twitter (@acasefobooks #tweetckg).

  1. Weil, I have to admit I am totally partical to Code Name Verity, but also have read Midwinterblood or a Greyhound of a Girl.

Could you tell me what a shadowing group is?

    1. Carnegie runs shadowing groups which are mainly done by schools. Each group tries to read all of the shortlist and judge it themselves. There is a website where you set up a group page and you can have discussions on there etc as well as upload reviews. The aim of shadowing is to have fun, explore the books etc.

We're not a school but we've set up a We Sat Down shadowing group anyway. At the moment, there are about 4 of us doing it (the other three are teens). Anyone (including adults as a far as I'm concerned) is welcome to join in with us either by commenting on posts we do on the blog or by e-mailing us. We'll add links to your reviews if you'd like to join in.
